About Columbia Basin Disabilities Unlimited

CBDU is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 program that provides recreational opportunities for physically challenged individuals.

CBDU officers are elected by the members and are not compensated for their service. Volunteering their time to CBDU, in an effort to direct the greater percentage of our funds to the members. We also do not maintain an office. Office duties are handled out of the officer's homes.

The Tri-Cities Wheeldraggers, the only wheelchair basketball team in the area, is sponsored by CBDU. The Wheeldraggers take on other wheelchair teams from within the Yakima Valley, as well as teams representing local civic organizations, businesses and schools. We play basketball early fall to late spring, as well as exhibition games to benefit local charities.

CBDU sponsors a variety of activities, including:

  • Wheelchair Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Hand Cycles
  • Water Skiing
  • Snow Skiing
  • Bowling
  • Darts
  • Pool
  • Cribbage, Chess and Games
  • Trips
  • Annual Picnic

The benefits of sports and recreational programs extend beyond having a good time. Sports help the disabled become independent again as they promote a positive, “Can Do” attitude. Recreational activities expose members to the mainstream of life.

To raise operating revenues, CBDU sponsors a number of fund-raisers during the year, including Coffee Stops, Bake sales and car washes. These activities, conducted by our members, help to foster a “Can Do” attitude among the members and raise not just money... but morale and self-esteem as well.

Some of our members have returned to school, while others have found employment that is both challenging and rewarding.

We are once again active participants in society...no longer sitting on the sidelines.

"CBDU...WHERE EVERYONE’S A WINNER!!!"
